Hungary Striker Barnabás Varga Stable in Hospital After Gruesome Face Injury
Hungary's Varga Carted Off After Mid-Air Collision
Player Breaks Multiple Bones in Face
Hungary's Barnabás Varga is in a stable condition in hospital after suffering a gruesome facial injury in a mid-air collision with a Scottish player during their Euro 2024 match.
The striker was stretchered off the pitch after the incident, which occurred in the second half of Hungary's eventual 1-0 win. Medical staff rushed to Varga's aid and he was taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with multiple fractures to his face.
The extent of Varga's injuries is not yet known, but he is expected to remain in hospital for several days. Hungary manager Marco Rossi said he was "concerned" about Varga's condition but was relieved to hear that he was stable.
"Barnabás is a tough player and I'm sure he will make a full recovery," Rossi said. "But it's a reminder of how dangerous football can be."
Varga's injury is a blow to Hungary, who are already without several key players due to injury. The striker has been in good form for his country, scoring three goals in their last four matches.
Hungary will now face Czech Republic in their next Euro 2024 match on June 23. It is unclear whether Varga will be fit to play in that match.
