McGinn confident in team's ability to defy expectations
Scotland midfielder John McGinn has declared that the team has the "mentality and capability" to create history by reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2024.
Scotland have a rich footballing history but have never qualified for the knockout stages of a major tournament, despite coming close on several occasions. However, McGinn is confident that this could be the year they finally break that duck.
"We know it's going to be a tough ask," said McGinn. "But we have the belief in ourselves that we can do it. We've got a good squad, a good manager, and we're determined to make history for our country."
Scotland face a tough test in their opening game against Hungary, but McGinn is confident that they can get off to a winning start.
"Hungary are a good side, but we're not afraid of them," said McGinn. "We're going to go out there and give it our all. We know that if we play to our potential, we can beat anyone."
Scotland's hopes of reaching the knockout stages will depend on their ability to get results against their other opponents in Group E, which also includes Spain, Czech Republic, and Norway.
"We're not going to underestimate any of our opponents," said McGinn. "But we believe that if we play to our strengths, we can get the points we need to qualify."
Scotland's Euro 2024 campaign begins on March 25 against Hungary in Budapest.
