Mike Johnson Elected as 56th Speaker of the US House of Representatives

Republican Leader to Serve as House Speaker

October 25, 2023, Washington, D.C.

Today, Congressman Mike Johnson (LA-04) was sworn in as the 56th Speaker of the US House of Representatives. The Republican Party elected Johnson after the previous Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, resigned due to health reasons.

Johnson is a seven-term Congressman known for his conservative views and commitment to fiscal responsibility. He has served on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure throughout his tenure.

In his acceptance speech, Johnson outlined his priorities as Speaker, including reducing government spending, promoting energy independence, and strengthening the military. He also pledged to work with both Democrats and Republicans to find common ground and address the challenges facing the nation.

Johnson's election as Speaker is a significant victory for the Republican Party. It comes after a series of setbacks for the party in recent elections, and it gives Republicans a chance to reset their agenda.
